2011 in Review

Here is what the first two ninths of research involved, in bullet list form, a least!

  • Commissioned Environics Demographic Study
  • Obtained detailed neighbourhood demographic summaries from realtor
  • Explored Crime Statistics (source: Macleans, DRPS)
  • Made list of “third places”
  • Learning about Neighbourhoods & Third Places
  • Examined congregational statistics returns from neighbouring Anglican parishes
  • Studied AMB research documents
  • Studied Town of Ajax Resident Polling & Reports
  • Studied Durham Region Growth Plans
  • Identified Neighbourhood of interest
  • Maintaining a list of all contacts relating to Ajax (40 households so far)
  • Began this blog about the process
  • Spoke at a supporting church

I compile all this information in Evernote, and update and refer to it regularly.

  • 2 people who live in Ajax and attended the now closed Anglican church
  • 2 colleagues who grew up in Ajax
  • 2 Friends who are moving to Whitby
  • Realtor
  • Neighbouring Anglican Church Staff
  • Area Anglican Clergy
  • Regional Anglican Dean
  • Neighbouring Anglican Priest
  • Church Planter in Whitby
  • Student interested in placement

I have been asking these individuals basic observational questions about the community. I am using their answers to develop more in depth surveys for those I meet in the target demographic(s). I am also asking each person to introduce me to others who live in Ajax, particularly young commuting families.
